Monster DENON DP-80

This design was made for a friend who wanted a superb vinyl combo up to 5000 euro.
This included: turntable with custom base and mods, external PSU, ,tonearm and cartridge.
All parts (except the CNC cut parts)
were bought second hand.
A legendary DENON DP-80 was used with modified power supply placed externally.
Extra weight was placed inside the original
closed chassis.
An custom base was cut from aluminum and inox steel and was decoupled with three
massive feet milled from solid bronze.
Their openings were filled with a mixture of sand and lead shot.
The same approach was used for the tonearm holding base also milled from solid bronze.
The turntable was inserted/press fitted in the hollow base making it totally
solid and dampened.
The arm is a rare turqoise version of the also legendary Dynavector DV-505.
Cartridge is a Van den Hul "The Frog".
A 450 gr record weight was milled from inox steel as other smaller parts.
Total weight of plinth plus turntable is around 50 kilos, plus 10 Kilos for tonearm and it's separate base.
The external PSU is another 7.5 kilos.
I will convince him on adding another
alloy "mat" under the original rubber
one and then a periphery ring that i believe will make the whole thing really shine.
The sound?
Utterly rythmic and liquid.
You have to listen to a properly set up
DD turntable to understand what are exactly the giving points of belt driven TTs...
