La Scala clone

Tweeters- Crites CT125
Mid drivers- atlas PD-5VH
Mid horns- klipsch k401
Bass horn driver- eminence kappa15c
Networks- Crites A4500

The bass cabinet doghouse is constructed with 3/4" MDF. The top bottom and both side walls are 1 1/2" MDF. The internal volumes are the same as a stock La Scala. The doghouse veneer is cherry and the walls are walnut finished with tung oil. The mid horn baffle and tweeter stands are all finished in walnut.

The tweeters are set back from the front of the mid baffle to aid in time alignment and depth of soundstage. Each bass cabinet is well over 200 lbs. These are currently being driven by a 4.5 watt tube amp, which is more than enough power for these.

Special thanks to Paul W. Klipsch for an amazing and timeless design. Bob Crites for supplying excellent parts. And all the contributors to the klipsch community and diyaudio.

  • Hi,
Amazing build! I’m considering starting a Klipsch La Scala build myself and I see you’ve used none original parts such as the Kappa 15c but with the crites a4500 crossover which is engineered to the specifics of the original parts. Have you altered the crossover in anyway or do you think this match is complementary regardless?

  • This is a spectacular build!

From the photos, it looks like the mid-horn baffle is 1.5" around the circumference and 3/4" where the horn is actually mounted?

Do you have a video demo anywhere?

    Thanks and best regards!

    Luther
