Pride & Joy

Two large active floor standing loudspeakers, built with the identical genuine ATC parts that ATC use in their SCM150ASLT loudspeakers.
All the parts including the Amp Packs were obtained by dismantling a cheaply bought pair of ATC PA65s, which are designed for high quality sound reproduction in clubs. PA65s contain exactly the same drive units and Amp Packs as the world renowned and hugely expensive Studio Control Monitors SCM150ASL. Lucky, eh!
I built the cabinets from scratch as a weather dependent one year 'yard project', since I have no workshop. I threw all I know into these speakers, both woodwork-wise, design-wise, technology & acoustics-wise. And they do sound great!
I had read about David gilmour and his technician working with ATC to improve and customise a pair of ATC speakers for DG's houseboat recording studio, and I utilized their comments about cabinet reinforcement. I reinforced the cabinets massively, with a 6" internal MDF matrix, internal sidewall damping, etc., and added a Townshend Maximum Supertweeter into the baffle to enhance the very high frequencies.
I named my speakers Pride and Joy, so I knew, when I was building them, which was the left-hand and which was the right-hand speaker. I don't know why manufacturers don't do that (even as a gimmick)...y'know....Rodgers & Hammerstein, Yogi Bear and BooBoo, Check & Chong, Ant & Dec, Mick and Keith, John & Paul, Elizabeth & Philip, etc.
:-)
