  • The mid-range horns are Fostex units: http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/speaker_components/WoodRadialHorn.shtml

  • Probably I'm a fool for not being able to read the diagrams, but what would you rate the average efficiency at?

  • The overall efficiency is dictated by that of the Woofer, which is about 93 dB/W(m).

  • Halo,

i will build my first DIY speakers soon and my friend recommend to use Fostex 1400 and H400. Woofers will be Scanspeak illuminator 7". There will be no crossover, XTA sound management module will be used as digital crossover.

How good it the fostex? Is it better than TAD 2001? I am looking for very low frequency response horn driver.

    Thanks

  • Hi Dansantoso,

the Fostex D1400 is a very good driver indeed, but I think the TAD TD-2001 is probably even better.

Having said this, I'm sorry to say that the weak link in your proposed system is going to be the Scanspeak Illuminator. There is NO way a 7" mid-woofer is going to match the dynamics and realism of a good horn-loaded compression driver.
