DP-1 by soundofvoid

Starting from a bare chassis and modifying everything from a Denon DP-80 workhorse.
Platter, spindle, axle, ball, thrust plate, strengthening and damping, new parts CNC cut, custom metal extra metal mat, custom periphery ring, custom record weight with integrated big Ortofon level, separate tonearm base, external PSU with double filtering...
Metals used are aluminum, leaded iron, bronze and inox steel.Generous quantities of lead shot mixed with thick gearbox oil are sealed in chambers in the legs and tonearm base.
As damping agents i used semi-liquid bitumine, sorbothane and sheets of closed cell foam.
The ball spins on a teflon disc that has provision for micro vibration absorption. It is always immersed in oil and there is a way to top the oil from time to time without having to open the motor.
The main chassis is 70 kilos and 8 of them are rotating mass. The tonearm base is 10 kilos and the external PSU is 6 kilos.
It is finished in automotive paint and custom color combination
It's dead quiet and utterly stable.
The owner will use it with a 6000$ Kuzma
4 point arm and a the top CAR 50 Kuzma cartridge...

  • Hi Yianni,
Great work. Insane attention to detail. Congratulations!

I am also quite interested in a direct-drive or idler-drive turntable.

May I ask what would the cost of purchasing a dp80 and performing the improvements you have conceived/designed?

    Thanks

    Panos

  • Hi,

I would like to ask the price for doing something similiar for a denon dp80....I don;t have the DP80 yet so need the whole system... I do have SME V 9 inch mounted onto a Micro Seiki AX-2G armboard which I would prefer to mount on the right hand size of the system.

    My direct email is onhk001@yahoo.com
