Vintage TAD & Fostex + JBL sub

Sub-woofer: < 100 Hz
JBL GTO-1514 15" high-excursion woofer in overdamped bass-reflex box (Vb = 100 L, Fb = 20 Hz)

Woofer: < 600 Hz
TAD TL-1602 15" AlNiCo magnet woofer in bass-reflex box (Vb = 140 L, Fb = 27 Hz)

Mid: 600 Hz - 2.8 kHz (~2 octaves)
Fostex FD200L 2" compression driver + H220 radial wood horn

Tweeter : 2.8 kHz - 10 kHz (~2 octaves)
Fostex D1405 1" compression driver + H420 radial wood horn

Super-tweeter: > 10 kHz
Fostex T90A AlNiCo ring radiator

Passively tri-amplified system
(1st amp: 400W/4Ohm class AB for the Sub-woofer,
2nd amp: 130W/8Ohm class AB for the Woofer,
3rd amp: 30W/8Ohm class A for the Horn-loaded mid-highs)

The separate sub-woofer amplification allows the system to achieve the desired amount of "target" bass lift in its overall in-room frequency response, even when the system is used in very large rooms (see e.g.: http://www.aes.org/e-lib/browse.cfm?elib=17042)

  • Hi Marco,
Nice and classy system; just crossed my mind "there is no replacement for displacement" kind of thought.
    Regards,

  • The -3dB point of the Sub in half-****e anaechoic conditions is 32 Hz. In room, there's usable output down to below 20 Hz.

  • P.S. don't know what happened with my reply above, but it was meant to read "in half ****e anaechoic"

  • Wierd! Apparently the system won't allow the word "s-p-a-c-e"!
