Super Simple Single Stage Preamp
This very simple tube preamp sounds excellent and can be built for a few hundred dollars. It uses a 24VAC wall wart which is converted to 280VDC inside the preamp. This is does by using a 240 to 24V small transformer backwards.
The preamp has a large amount of NFB and is flat from 10hz to 130Khz. It only has 3db of gain. Silver solder is used in component-2-component wiring style. No hook-up wire is used in the amp cct. Wire Wrap Wire (WWW) links thee single cct. brd. to the outside world. No PCB is used to dull the sound. Alps blue velvet pot and 4oz solid brass knob gives one total control. Two switchable inputs are on the back. Good sounding, dead quiet.
