My FE166e Quarter Wave Back Loaded Horns

I built these speakers about 3 years ago.

They use the Fostex FE166e full range drivers in an enclosure design called a BiB (Bigger is Better) which was designed by the late Terry Cain (see http://www.zillaaudio.com/bib/bib.asp). They are made fron MDF, and are covered with genuine highly figured tasmanian oak veneers, oiled with a blend of olive oil and mahogany stain.

Once the BSC (Baffle Step Compensation) circuit was fine tuned, and they had 100 hours of burn in, they started to sound nice. They now are very addictive, even though their top end is somewhat rolled off because of the full range design. The bass extension when correctly position in the corners of a room is unbelievable, and the midrange is very quick with amazing imaging. The wooden plugs which replace the dust cap expand the narrow focus.

I also built a T-Amp from www.41hz.com (the AMP6 BASIC), and this coupled with a Cowon D2 media player (plays FLAC files) gives a sound that is many times better than you would expect for such a low budget.
