FirstWatt F6
The amplifier is a power amplifier designed by Nelson Pass. The model is FirstWatt F6. Nelson is a generous guy, he gives the DIY community his FirstWatt deigns for free. The design of the F6 is special in that it uses a input transformer in the signal path. The design is basically quite simple but at the same time genius - and sounds VERY good.
Schematics and instructions can easily be found by making a Google search for ’Firstwatt F6’.
My F6 uses Seifert heat sinks and 3mm aluminium plates bolted straight to the sinks (thread tapping needed). Between the bottom plate and heat sink there are washers to give a 3mm gap for ventilation. The meshed triangles on the top plate are also for ventilation, but look nice also. =) The aluminium plates are painted black with heat resistive paint (quite basic can spray).
The transformers are from the Polish Toroidy company. The power supply PCBs is self made and the amp PCBs are made locally from Gerber files donated kindly by a DiyAudio Forum member. Speaker terminals are WBT and RCAs are from Neutric.
Power supply wire is Belden, signal wire is Hypex and speaker cable is from German Audiodata.
Other electric parts are mostly ordered from Mouser – except the Jensen input transformers witch are of course from Jensen, USA.
The front plate is Oak wood, finished with oil. No CNC used here or on any other parts - just a router and other hand held tools.
